How to Tell When it's Time for a Trim?
Ever wondered when it’s time for a trim? We’ve all been there
contemplating when is it time to cut our hair and not to mention the struggle
of finding someone who knows how to cut curly hair. Unlike people with straight
hair, one simply cannot cut curly hair wet! That’s one mistake most people
make. We wear our curls dry, don’t we? So why would we get a haircut, and have it
dry unevenly?
Before getting a trim make sure
either you know how to do it yourself or you have someone who knows how to work
with curls. For instance, I’ve always went to the local salon to get a trim and
every time they cut my hair wet. Later when my hair was dried, I could see all
the flaws. I hated it! Ever since I found out that we should be cutting it dry
I ended up trimming my own hair.
Now, if you are wondering how to
tell if you need to get a trim fear no more! I am about to give you some tips
that will let you know when it is time.
1. Knots/Tangles: Tell those knots, “KNOT TODAY!” This
is one way to identify when you need a good trimming. It’s fairly uncommon that
curly hair people have knots because of all the leave-in so when you spot a
knot you know the meaning of it.
2. Split Ends: Everyone should know that a sign of split ends means getting a trim. Don’t you dare split them yourself! See one? Do some searching and start trimming.
3. Frizzy Dry Ends: The ends of your curls should be
curled like the rest of your hair. If they are straight at the ends, it’s time
for a trim. If they are frizzy and dry at the ends, it’s time for a trim. Both
signs are an indication that you may need a cut.
4. Stringy Curls: Our curls are supposed to be full of
protein and moisture, so if your curls look limp or stringy then it’s that
time!
Once your hair is trimmed, you’ll
notice a complete difference. The ends of your curls will feel thicker. This
always happens to me and it is one of the best feelings to have. Your hair
will be bouncier and full. If your hair reveals any of the four signs cut your
hair, but typically you want to cut your hair every 4 to 8 weeks to keep your hair healthy.
