How to Feel Motivated in the New Year

            2020 was filled with political stress, feeling trapped, afraid, in need of going out, and so much more. We can all agree that it was one hell of a year and here we are approaching 2021! We did it and that is something you should already feel proud of. Last year should be a learning lesson and perhaps made you even more humble than you were before, so let us kick it into gear and talk about what are some things you can do this year to help improve your mental health and well-being.

            The very first thing I want to talk about is making sure you first create the space you want. By space I mean anywhere from your home all the way to the circle of friends and family. It is okay to get rid of unwanted things in your space such as, items that are just wasting your space or even bringing negativity. It is okay to get rid of people who are not beneficial to you or your lifestyle. Distance yourself from them and limit the amount of activity you have with people like them. You can even create a good space by communicating with them and that way they too can act and change their lifestyle in the coming new year.

            If you are not used to saying “no” to certain people or situations, then this could be a great challenge in 2021! It is okay to say “no” and you should not feel sorry for saying it. Your feelings are valid and just because someone makes you feel guilty about it, makes them the appalling one and not you. Why? Because for one they don’t know what it is like to be in your shoes nor do they realize how much you do for them already. Make sure to change your “yes” habit into a “no” habit this year. Saying no will not only help you, but you will end up getting used to it and feel less guilty.

            We spent so much time inside that we cannot wait to get outside! Get out of your comfort zone and do something that you usually would not do. Perhaps you’d love to try a new top that you would not usually wear, TRY IT! This feeling will make you feel as if your outside and I don’t mean outside as in nature but outside as in outside what you normally do. Explore different looks, hairstyles, make up looks, try a new hobby, but at the end make sure you try something new! This will help you prove to yourself that you can do it and by the end of 2021 you’ll realize that you should have done that earlier.

            Whether it’s trying something new, getting rid of bad habits, being more positive, no matter what it is make sure do it with love, peace, and compassion. At the end of the day, you want to better yourself and build a better life for yourself. My goal for 2021 is to just go for it! I lack that sense and would like to be better and not overthink.
